An AI IELTS Speaking score is a practice estimate. IELTSpeaking has not published a product-specific human-comparison validation study or a guaranteed error range. A sample report demonstrates the format, not accuracy.
Separate text evidence from audio evidence
A transcript lets you check word choice, grammar and how ideas connect. First check that it matches what you said: a recognition error can become a misleading grammar or vocabulary correction.
Pronunciation and delivery need the recording. A polished transcript does not establish clear stress, intelligibility, rhythm or natural pacing. A short answer also provides less evidence than a varied three-part performance.
Check a result before changing your study plan
- Listen to the recording and correct obvious transcript errors.
- Find the answer or phrase that supports each major comment.
- Compare several unrehearsed sessions with similar recording conditions.
- Ask a qualified teacher to review a disputed score before an important preparation decision.
What a useful validation study should publish
A product-specific study should describe the number of recordings, score ranges, accent coverage and recording conditions. Human raters should assess the same recordings independently without seeing the AI scores.
It should report disagreement between human raters as well as AI-to-human errors, including per-criterion results, the share within half a band and important failure cases. Publish the scoring version and study date so readers know what was evaluated.
Current methodology and validation status
Use the feedback to choose one observable change
If the report points to repeated tense errors, inspect the actual clauses and practise correcting them aloud. If it flags pronunciation or pauses, locate them in the recording before choosing a drill. Retest on a new question so improvement is not just memorisation.
Only the official IELTS test process produces an official Speaking result. Do not use one AI number as a promise of your exam-day band.

Does IELTSpeaking publish a guaranteed scoring error range?
No. No product-specific human-comparison validation study or guaranteed error range is published here. Use feedback as preparation evidence, not a promised official score.
Can pronunciation be judged from a transcript?
No. Pronunciation needs audio evidence. A transcript can hide mispronunciations or introduce recognition errors.
Why do two apps give me different bands?
They may use different recording tasks, transcription and scoring systems. Compare the evidence in the feedback and seek human review when the difference affects an important decision.
