Start from the comments, not just the overall band. Verify the transcript and find the phrase or recording segment behind the feedback. Choose one repeated problem you can practise and hear changing.
A worked grammar example
Suppose your answer contains: Last year I go to Kyoto with my family. We stay there for four days. The useful priority is maintaining past tense in a completed trip, not adding more advanced vocabulary.
A correction is: Last year I went to Kyoto with my family. We stayed there for four days. This is a prepared teaching example; no band increase is inferred from correcting two sentences.
Days 1–2: diagnose and repair
Day 1: listen and mark three clauses about completed events. Confirm the transcript before labelling an error. Day 2: say each corrected clause in a full answer; then change the person, time and place so you are practising the pattern.
Days 3–5: transfer the skill
Record answers about a recent meal, a childhood event and a journey. Check past-tense consistency without stopping after every sentence. Keep the original recordings so you can compare repeated errors and how easily you communicate.
Days 6–7: retest and choose the next priority
On day 6, use an unseen three-part question set under similar recording conditions. On day 7, compare examples of the target pattern with day 1. If the error persists, keep the focus or ask for human feedback. If it improves, choose the next well-evidenced weakness.
Seven days is a practice cycle, not a promised timetable for a higher band. For pronunciation or fluency priorities, use audio evidence rather than transcript corrections alone.

Should I always practise my lowest score?
Choose the weakest criterion with clear supporting evidence. If a low score cannot be explained from the recording, check it before building your plan around it.
