What do you do in the mornings?
I usually get up around seven. I make a cup of tea, have a quick shower and get dressed. I check my phone for messages and then I go to work or study. If I have time I do a bit of tidying.
On a typical morning I aim to be up by seven. I start with a shower, then make breakfast and coffee. While I eat I check my messages and my calendar for the day. If I have time I go for a short walk or do some stretching before leaving for work.
Mornings vary a little, but I try to keep them consistent. I wake around six-thirty, do a short breathing exercise, then shower and make a proper breakfast. I use the first half hour to skim my emails and set priorities for the day, then I either cycle to work or, if it’s raining, catch the bus. Keeping a calm, structured start really helps me focus.
Is breakfast important?
Yes, I think breakfast is important. It gives you energy for the morning and helps you concentrate. If I skip it I feel hungry and tired.
I do think breakfast matters for most people. It gives you energy and helps concentration, especially if you’ve got a busy morning. That said, some people do fine with a light snack or later meal, so it depends on the person.
Generally I’d say breakfast is important because it stabilises blood sugar after the night and supports cognitive performance, particularly for school or work tasks. There are exceptions — some people follow intermittent fasting and feel better skipping breakfast — but for me a balanced meal sets me up for the morning.
What is your morning routine?
I get up, wash my face, brush my teeth and get dressed. Then I make breakfast — usually cereal or toast — and have a cup of tea. I pack my bag and leave.
My morning routine is pretty straightforward. I wake, wash and get dressed, then make porridge or eggs and a proper coffee. While I eat I check my calendar and emails to make sure I’m prepared. I usually leave home about half an hour after breakfast so I’m not rushed.
I try to follow a consistent routine because it helps my productivity. I wake, spend five minutes doing breathing exercises, shower and get dressed, then prepare a balanced breakfast — porridge with fruit or scrambled eggs. As I eat I review my top three priorities for the day and skim overnight emails. Finally I gather what I need and head out, which gives me a calm, focused start.
Do you like to get up early in the morning?
Not really, I don’t mind getting up early sometimes but it depends. On workdays I have to, but at the weekend I like to sleep in.
I don’t mind getting up early when I have a clear reason, like a meeting or an early class. I find mornings are often the quietest time and I can get things done, though I do enjoy a lie-in at the weekend.
Yes, generally I prefer getting up early because my best concentration comes in the morning. Early starts give me uninterrupted time for planning and exercise. That said, I respect different chronotypes — some people are night owls and do their best work later — so I try to be flexible when I can.
What do you do right after getting up in the morning?
Right after I get up I turn off the alarm and stretch a bit. I go to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. Then I make a cup of tea.
The first thing I do is turn off my alarm and open the curtains to let in daylight. I drink a glass of water, wash and dress, and then make breakfast. I try not to check my phone straight away so I can be more present.
Immediately after waking I sit up and take a few deep breaths, then I drink a glass of water to rehydrate. I open the curtains to let natural light in, which helps reset my body clock, and I avoid my phone for ten minutes. After a quick stretch and a shower I prepare breakfast and review my plan for the day.
