I usually use a computer when I need to do proper work, like typing essays, making spreadsheets or doing research. I also use it to watch films, browse the internet and shop online. If something needs a lot of typing or a big screen, I choose a computer over my phone.

I tend to use a computer whenever a task needs more power or a bigger screen than my phone can offer. For example, I’ll use it for writing reports, analysing data in spreadsheets, editing photos or joining video calls. It’s also my go-to for longer online sessions such as studying or streaming films, because it’s more comfortable and efficient.

I use a computer in situations that demand processing power, precise control or a larger display: drafting long documents, running spreadsheets, editing images or videos, and multitasking with several windows open. I also prefer it for secure online banking, lengthy research or group video meetings—basically whenever ergonomics, performance or privacy matter more than quick mobile convenience.

The first time I used a computer was at primary school when I was about eight or nine. We had a computer lesson where we learned to type and play simple educational games. I remember being excited and a bit clumsy with the keyboard.

I first used a computer at around nine years old in an ICT lesson at school. It was a desktop with Windows and we practised typing and simple drawing software. I found it fascinating — I remember staying late to try out the games and slowly getting more confident with the mouse and keyboard.

My earliest memory is of an ICT session at primary school when I was about nine. The teacher showed us basic word-processing and a drawing programme; I was immediately hooked by how quickly you could create and change things. That early exposure really shaped my interest in technology and made me comfortable using different interfaces as I grew up.

Without a computer my life would be harder. I’d find it more difficult to do work, study and keep in touch with friends. I’d probably use my phone more and write things by hand sometimes. It would be slower but I could manage.

Life without a computer would certainly be more inconvenient. My job and study rely on digital documents and online resources, so I’d have to spend more time doing things by hand or using public services like library computers. Communication would shift back to more phone calls and face-to-face meetings, which would change my daily routine quite a lot.

If I didn’t have a computer, day-to-day life would become markedly less efficient. Tasks that are automatic now — managing spreadsheets, long-form writing, remote meetings and online banking — would require extra time, travel or third‑party help. I’d adapt with pen and paper, phones and public terminals, but the loss of immediacy and organisation would be significant, especially for work and study.

It would be difficult for me to use a computer if there was no internet, the battery was dead or the screen was broken. Also if the keyboard was uncomfortable or the software was too confusing I wouldn’t use it well.

I struggle with computers in a few clear situations: when the internet connection is very slow, if the keyboard or mouse is badly designed, or when software has a confusing interface. Also, if I’m tired or in a noisy place I find it hard to concentrate and work effectively on a computer.

Circumstances that impede my computer use include poor bandwidth, broken or non‑ergonomic peripherals, and overly complicated or badly localised software. Equally, cognitive load matters: when I’m exhausted, distracted or under time pressure I make more mistakes. Accessibility issues, like tiny fonts or lack of assistive options, would also make things especially difficult.
