What kinds of websites do you often visit?
I usually visit social media sites, like Facebook and Instagram, to keep in touch with friends. I also check news websites most days to see what’s happening in the world. Sometimes I visit shopping sites to browse for clothes or electronics, and I use a streaming website for music and films.
I tend to visit a mix of sites: news outlets and a couple of independent blogs for current affairs and opinion pieces, a learning platform for short courses, and specialist forums for hobbies like photography. I also use an online marketplace for buying things and a music-streaming service. It’s a practical mix – some sites for updates, some for learning and some just for downtime.
What is your favourite website?
My favourite website is a streaming service because I can watch films and series whenever I like. It has a simple layout and recommendations based on what I’ve watched, which I find useful. I use it mostly in the evenings.
My favourite site is a community-led learning platform — it combines short video lessons, quizzes and discussion threads. I like it because I can learn at my own pace, ask questions in the forums and see other learners’ projects. The personalised suggestions and clear structure make it easy to keep progressing.
Are there any changes to the websites you often visit?
Yes, some of the websites I use have changed. They often update their layout so things look different, and there are more ads now. Some sites push you to download their app, and I get more pop-ups asking for permission to use my data.
Definitely — many of the sites I visit have become more personalised and mobile-friendly. There’s a noticeable shift towards paywalls and subscription options, more intrusive targeted advertising, and algorithms that tailor content to what you’ve previously liked. On the positive side, interactive features like live chat and improved search make them more useful.
What kinds of websites are popular in your country?
In my country, popular websites include social networks, news sites and online shops. People also use travel booking sites and video platforms a lot. Many people also go to local classified websites to buy second-hand things.
Popular sites tend to be social networks, big e-commerce platforms and news aggregators, but there’s also strong growth in service marketplaces — apps and sites for food delivery, ride-hailing and home services. Educational platforms and short-form video sites are quite trendy too, especially with younger people who favour quick, visual content.
Do you prefer getting information from websites or books?
I prefer getting quick information from websites because it’s faster and easy to search. But for serious reading or learning, I still like books because they feel more reliable and I can concentrate better.
It depends on what I need. For quick facts, current events or practical how-to guides I’d go to websites — they’re faster and searchable. For deep study, novels or academic texts, I prefer books because they’re more structured and easier to digest without distractions. Reliability is the main difference; I check multiple online sources if I’m using websites for research.
Would you like to have your own website?
Yes, I would like to have my own website. I’d probably create a small portfolio to show my work and maybe write short blog posts. It would be useful for job applications and to share with friends.
I would like to have my own website — a professional portfolio and blog where I can showcase projects, publish short articles and control how I present myself online. I’d register a domain, use a simple content management system, and focus on clear design and SEO so potential employers can find me. It’s a bit of work, but it feels worthwhile for long-term visibility.
What have you learned from websites that help with your life or studies?
Websites have helped me with study tips, tutorials and recipes. I’ve learned new software skills from video guides and found practice tests for exams online. They’re helpful for solving small problems quickly.
Websites have been invaluable: I’ve completed several online courses that taught me coding basics, used academic databases for essays, and joined forums where experienced people give practical advice. Beyond hard skills, I’ve picked up productivity techniques, citation tools and CV templates that directly helped my studies and job applications.
|---|---|
| What kinds of websites do you often visit? | |
| What is your favourite website? | |
| Are there any changes to the websites you often visit? | |
| What kinds of websites are popular in your country? | |
Полезные формулировки, уже продемонстрированные в примерных ответах, включают: independent blogs, specialist forums, learning platform, community-led, personalised suggestions, at my own pace, personalised, paywalls.
