Have you made any crafts with paper?
Yes, I have. I used to fold paper into simple origami cranes and make paper aeroplanes. Sometimes I cut out shapes and stuck them together to make cards.
Definitely. I enjoyed origami when I was younger and later made handmade cards and little paper decorations for parties. I liked that it was cheap and you could be quite creative with just a sheet of paper and some glue.
Yes — quite a lot over the years. I’ve done origami, made birthday cards, and even tried papier-mâché for a school project. I like how paper is so versatile: you can fold, cut or paste it to create something both decorative and personal.
What did you like to do with paper as a child?
I liked drawing and making paper aeroplanes. I also cut out pictures from magazines to make pictures.
As a child I drew all the time, made collages from magazines and folded paper aeroplanes to race with friends. I also made simple cards for family birthdays — it felt special to give something made by hand.
I spent hours making little comic strips and scrapbooks, drawing my own characters and sticking in ticket stubs or stickers. Paper was my go-to medium for both play and keeping memories — I’d make storybooks and swap them with classmates.
Do you still write physical letters?
Not really. I don’t usually write letters now, only maybe a postcard on holiday.
Only very occasionally — I’ll send a handwritten card for special occasions like a wedding or when I want to be more personal. Most everyday messages are by email or messaging apps.
Rarely. I reserve handwritten letters for something quite personal or formal — thank-you notes, condolence letters or certain invitations. For day-to-day communication I rely on digital tools, but I value the permanence of a handwritten note.
Do people still keep handwritten letters today?
Some people do. Older relatives often keep letters, but many people throw them away or delete emails.
Yes, a fair number of people still keep handwritten letters, especially if they’re from a close friend or family member. They’re often kept as keepsakes — although younger people may prefer photos or digital backups.
Absolutely — though it’s selective. Many families hang on to letters that have sentimental or legal value, while the bulk of everyday correspondence has gone digital. There’s also a small revival of interest in preserving letters, with people scanning them to create digital archives.
Do you carry paper and pens with you when you go out?
Sometimes I carry a small notebook and a pen in my bag. It’s useful for lists.
I don’t always, but I usually have a small notebook and a biro in my bag for quick notes or shopping lists. My phone covers most things, but a pen is handy when you need to scribble something fast.
Yes — I tend to keep a slim notepad and a reliable pen with me. I find writing by hand helps clarify ideas and it’s reassuring to have something that doesn’t rely on batteries. For sketches or sudden thoughts it’s much quicker than unlocking a phone.
