Part 2 cue-card response
My perfect job would be working as a manager in a small bookshop with a cafe. I love books and talking to people, so this job would let me read more and meet customers. I first thought about it when I did a student job in a shop and enjoyed serving customers. To get this job I would need to learn how to run a shop, like handling money, ordering stock and making drinks. I would also need to practise customer service and maybe learn simple baking. It is perfect because it mixes my hobbies and a steady job, and I would feel happy helping people find books.
My perfect job would be running a small independent bookshop and café in a lively neighbourhood. I'd aim for around twenty seats and a small shelf of well-curated second-hand books. It’s the sort of place where I could recommend books, chat with regulars and host occasional readings and community events. I first thought of this idea after helping a friend set up a pop-up bookstall at a local festival and seeing how much joy books brought people; the owner of a nearby bookshop also encouraged me and shared practical tips. To get the job I’d need to learn basic business skills like bookkeeping and stock management, plus barista training and some event planning; I’d also want to study how to market a small business online, for example using social media and local listings. For example, I'd do a weekend bookkeeping course and a barista workshop. I think it’s perfect because it combines things I love: books, conversation and baking — I enjoy making simple cakes for customers — while allowing creative control and flexible hours. It would suit my personality since I like quiet, bookish environments but also small bursts of social interaction. Finally, owning a shop would let me contribute to the local community by promoting new writers and offering a friendly space, which feels really meaningful to me.
3부 - 모델 답변
What kind of job can be called a 'dream job'?
A 'dream job' is a job someone really wants because it suits their interests and skills. It might also pay well or give a good lifestyle. People often call a job a dream if they enjoy going to work most days.
A 'dream job' is more than just high pay — it’s work that fits your strengths, values and preferred lifestyle. It usually offers a sense of purpose, some autonomy and a healthy work–life balance. For many people, the ideal role also allows progression or the chance to be creative.
What jobs do children want to do when they grow up?
Children often say they want to be pilots, doctors, teachers or footballers. They pick jobs they see on TV or that adults talk about. Their ideas can be simple and fun.
Young children usually name high-profile roles like pilots, doctors, teachers or athletes because those jobs are visible and exciting. As they get older, their choices can become more realistic and influenced by family, teachers or hobbies. Schools and media play a big part in shaping those early ambitions.
Do people's ideal jobs change as they grow up?
Yes, people’s ideal jobs often change with age. When young, people want exciting careers; later they think about security or family time. Experience and responsibilities change priorities.
Definitely — ideal jobs tend to evolve as people’s priorities shift. For example, graduates might chase status or rapid progression, while someone in their thirties might prioritise flexibility or stability because of family commitments. Life experience and changing values often reshape what we consider 'ideal'.
What should people consider when choosing jobs?
When choosing jobs people should think about pay, what they enjoy, and job location. Also training needed and how long the hours are. Those things help decide if a job is suitable.
People should consider several things: whether the role matches their skills and interests, salary and benefits, the commute and work hours, plus long-term prospects and how much training is required. Also, company culture and whether the job supports a healthy lifestyle are important factors.
Is salary the main reason why people choose a certain job?
Salary is important but not always the main reason. Some people pick jobs for interest or because they like the company. Money matters, but other things like job happiness are important.
Salary is often a key factor, particularly where bills and family commitments are involved, but it’s rarely the sole reason. Many people balance pay with job satisfaction, career development and work–life balance. Younger workers might accept lower pay for meaningful work, while others prioritise financial security.
What kind of jobs are the most popular in your country?
In my country popular jobs include teaching, healthcare and IT. Many people also work in shops or restaurants. These jobs are common because they are needed everywhere.
The most popular jobs tend to be in sectors like healthcare, education, information technology and retail. Healthcare and teaching are steady because of constant demand, while tech roles have grown thanks to digital transformation. Hospitality and construction are also common, especially in urban areas.
