Spend on the feedback you cannot produce yourself. Free recording is enough to begin noticing short answers and repeated mistakes. AI can help organise practice; a qualified teacher is useful when the problem or score remains disputed.
Start free when you need a routine
Record three answers, listen back and write one change for each. Use the public topics and timer. You do not need an estimated band to practise giving a reason, adding an example or correcting a tense pattern.
Choose AI when the workflow helps you repeat
Inspect a sample report first. Useful feedback points to something you said and gives a concrete next exercise. Check the membership, included usage and price. IELTSpeaking's full web mock requires Apple sign-in and Pro; the public recorder does not.
Choose a teacher for diagnosis and disputed scores
Bring one recording, its transcript and two specific questions to a qualified teacher. Ask for evidence for each priority and a drill you can repeat alone. Check the teacher's relevant experience; a lesson or private mock is still not an official IELTS result.
Use a simple weekly combination
Practise and review short recordings on most days. Use one unrehearsed full mock when you need a baseline. Add a human review when the same problem remains unclear, then apply that advice to fresh questions.

Which option guarantees a higher band?
None. Compare the quality of feedback and your ability to apply it. No practice product or private lesson can guarantee an official IELTS result.
