One law I would introduce is a statutory 'right to disconnect' that prevents employers from expecting employees to deal with non-urgent work communications outside their contracted hours. The law would require employers to set clear off-hours, refrain from sending routine emails or messages at night, and put emergency protocols in place so urgent matters can still be handled. This would bring real changes: better work–life balance, lower stress and clearer boundaries between home and work, and it would force firms to rethink rostering and communication practices. I suspect it would be popular among staff, particularly parents and carers, though some managers and small businesses might resist because they worry about losing flexibility. I arrived at the idea after years of getting late-night emails and seeing colleagues burn out; for instance, a friend missed her child's recital because she had to answer messages. I feel strongly that it would improve mental health and family life, and that clear legal rights would create fairer expectations. For example, France already has rules like this, and introducing penalties or an inspection regime would make the law meaningful rather than symbolic; employers might even be required to log communications to show compliance, which would be intrusive but increase accountability.

Part 2 cue-card response

I'd introduce a law called the 'right to disconnect'. It would stop employers asking staff to reply to work messages outside work hours. The change would give people better time with family and less stress. I think most workers would like it, though some bosses might not. I thought of it because I often get emails late and it feels like you never finish work. I feel it's fair and would help people's mental health, but it would need clear rules so employers can't ignore it.

What rules should students follow at school?

Students should follow basic rules like being on time, listening to teachers, doing homework and being polite to others. Schools often ask pupils to wear a uniform and not use phones in class. These rules help lessons run smoothly and keep everyone safe.

Do people in your country usually obey the law?

People in my country mostly obey the law, especially obvious things like traffic lights and paying taxes. But some people break rules if they think they won't get caught, such as parking illegally or speeding. It often depends on the person and the situation.

What kinds of behavior are considered as good behavior?

Good behaviour includes being polite, helping others, telling the truth and following rules. People also think giving up a seat for an older person or saying sorry are good actions. These things make society nicer.

Do you think children can learn about the law outside of school?

Yes. Children learn about rules from parents, TV and friends. They copy behaviour they see at home, and neighbours or community events can teach them about right and wrong too.

What are the benefits for people to obey rules?

If people obey rules, life is safer and fairer. There are fewer accidents and less arguing. It also helps everyone know what to expect, so things run smoothly.

How can parents teach children to obey rules?

Parents can teach rules by setting a good example, telling children the reasons for rules, and using routines and praise. Simple things like bedtime and chores teach discipline.
